At ESOMS, we offer different types of anaesthesia depending on the nature and complexity of the procedure being carried out. Anaesthesia is used to ensure that patients are as comfortable as possible during their treatment. In dentistry and oral surgery, the two main options are local anaesthesia and general anaesthesia.
Local anaesthesia is commonly used for less complex procedures and involves numbing a specific area of the mouth. This type of anaesthesia is typically administered via an injection directly into the tissue around the treatment site. Patients remain fully awake and aware throughout the procedure, but the area being treated will be completely numb. This allows dental work to be carried out effectively and comfortably, without affecting the rest of the body.
For more complex or involved surgical procedures, general anaesthesia may be used. This is a medically controlled state of unconsciousness. Under general anaesthesia, patients are completely asleep and unaware during the surgery. It is delivered and monitored by an anaesthetist.
Understanding the different anaesthesia options available helps to provide clarity around what to expect during dental or surgical treatment. Our clinical team is experienced in working with both local and general anaesthesia in appropriate settings, ensuring safe and well-managed care at every step.
